Majid Jafar

Majid Jafar is the CEO of Crescent Petroleum, the Middle East's first and largest private upstream energy company, where he leads both strategy and operations. Mr Jafar is also Vice-Chairman of Crescent Group, which holds interests in port management, logistics, contracting, private equity, and real estate.

Mr Jafar has long advocated the use of natural gas as a source of fuel in a region that holds over 42 per cent of the world’s proven gas reserves. He has spearheaded research and sponsored events promoting the development the region’s natural gas assets and the adoption of natural gas as the fuel of the future.

He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED) and of the Iraq Energy Institute, in addition to sitting on the International Advisory Board of The Atlantic Council.

Mr Jafar became an Accredited Director of the Institute of Directors (IoD Mudara) in 2012 and was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2016.

He is also a member of the GCC Board of Directors Institute, the Bretton Woods Committee, and the Young Presidents Organization (YPO).

He is a graduate of Cambridge University’s Churchill College with both Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics Engineering. He also holds an MA in International Studies and Diplomacy from the University of London’s School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS) as well as an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
